MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin says she ``certainly'' believes that another federal government shutdown can be avoided.
Baldwin toured a University of Wisconsin-Madison lab on Tuesday and was participating in a discussion with faculty and others about the effects that the latest government shutdown and sequester has had on funding for research.
Baldwin and Wisconsin's other senator, Republican Ron Johnson, have been named to a special budget conference committee designed to come up with a budget compromise by Dec. 13. U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, of Janesville, is the panel's co-chair.
Baldwin says she thinks it is very unlikely there will be another shutdown. She says the committee needs to work out a path to stop the government going from one crisis to another.
