Dump Truck crash near Middleton
Posted Tuesday, December 3rd 2013 @ 7am  by Dane County Sheriff's Department

December 2, 2013 – At 1:07 pm, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash on CTH K, just west of Church Road in the town of Springfield.

Jamie G. Thompson, age 40 of Rio, was operating a large dump truck when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer.  He lost control of the truck, struck a guard rail, and then went into a culvert.  The truck sustained extensive front end damage.  Thompson was treated for minor injuries at the scene by Middleton EMS.  The Middleton Fire Department also responded to the scene and assisted with a large fuel spill resulting from the crash.

Thompson was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.  The Dane County Sheriff’s Office advises that motorists try to resist the reaction to swerve in an attempt to avoid hitting animals or debris in the road.  In many cases this increases the extent of damage or serious injury.
