Regents approve a raise

The regents of the University of Wisconsin System have approved a proposal that could eventually lead to pay raises for all UW System employees. The board of regents voted Friday, the second day of a two-day meeting at UW-Milwaukee.

The proposal involves requests the UW System would make of the Office of State Employment Relations, and a recommendation for the legislative committee that oversees employment relations. It involves asking that UW System employees be included in any salary hikes given to all state employees.

It also involves requesting that the UW System be given autonomy to provide further salary increases from its own resources. Regent John Drew says UW staff members have gone too long without a pay raise, and they need to know they have the board's full support.
