Mallards Open 2019 Season

The Mallards open their 2019 campaign tonight against Northwoods League newcomers, the Kokomo Jackrabbits. Opening day features an SSM Health hand sanitizer giveaway and the Underdog Aerialist group. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. with gates opening 60 minutes beforehand.

Donnie Scott returns for his seventh season at the Duck Pond as the Mallards manager. In his career with the Mallards, Scott has made the playoffs in four of his six seasons, including winning the 2013 Summer Collegiate World Series. In 2018, Scott led the Mallards to a record breaking season high of 49 wins.

Utility player Justice Bigbie (Western Carolina U), will once again call the Duck Pond home. He had an exceptional first season with the Mallards in 2018. Bigbie participated in 35 games, recording an at-bat in 22 of his 35 appearances with eight multi-hit performances.

Lowell Schipper (University of Richmond, VA), is set as the Mallards starting pitcher. Schipper joins the Mallards after completing his junior year with the Spiders. During his spring season, he pitched 24.1 innings, earning 21 strikeouts. His longest outing was vs. William and Mary on April 24, with five IP and seven strikeouts.

The Madison Mallards achieved Top Fan Attendance honors after the 2018 season (Ballpark Digest), beating every other summer collegiate baseball team in the country. The Mallards also placed 23rd among Summer Collegiate and Minor League teams combined in Average Fan Attendance.

“It's a testament to the city we live in and all our fans,” Tyler Isham, the Mallards General Manager said. “We put a lot of time, energy, and effort to make this fun for everyone.”
