One of the most adorable friendships in rock isn't Geddy Lee and Dave Grohl, it's Mary Weinrib and Virgina Grohl.
Foo Fighters front man and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl and Rush front man Geddy Lee are, despite their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame careers, widely considered to be two of the friendliest people in music. It makes sense that the two would get along, especially considering Grohl's passionate fandom of Rush.
But Dave and Geddy's good nature had to come from somewhere, and it's little surprise that their mothers are equally exuberant.
After being spotted with Dave recently in Toronto, Geddy was asked about their relationship by Talkin' Rock.
"Dave's a very cool guy, and his mom and my mom have actually become pals," Geddy said, before explaining how the two matriarchs bonded. "His mom, Virginia, wrote this book about rock moms and she flew up here to meet my mom and they really hit it off."
But the initial interview for From Cradle to Stage: Stories from the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars was only the beginning.
"They've stayed in touch, so she was up here [recently] doing a talk about her book and Dave was interviewing her on stage. So they were in town, we all got together, so it was pretty fun."
He added that the unlikelihood of the friendship only adds to the fun of it.
"It's pretty unusual; it's pretty surreal, I have to sit there and just laugh about it," he said.
