Brewers pitching dominates Cubs again

While there is no shortage of candidates for Pitcher of the Month in the National League this April, Brandon Woodruff’s name has to be near the top of everyone’s list. Sunday in Chicago, Woodruff again demonstrated his dominance over opposing hitters.

Woodruff was staked to just one run during his six innings of two-hit shutout ball, mowing down eight Cubs on strikeouts while walking just two in Milwaukee’s 6-0 win on Sunday. Woodruff improves to 2-0 with a 1.55 ERA.

Woodruff has been brutal on the Brewers rivals to the south this month. In three starts against the Cubs, Woodruff has surrendered just one earned run, while striking out 22 and walking just three in 19 innings of work.

“They’re a really good team,” Woodruff said of the Cubs to reporters via zoom after the game. “They’ve always been one of the top teams in our division the last few years. We have to go through them if you want to win the division.”

The Brewers erupted for five runs in the ninth inning to effectively put a close game out of reach. Milwaukee comes home after their 5-1 road trip 13-8 on the young season, two games ahead of second place St. Louis in the NL Central.

Milwaukee opens up a three-game series with Miami (9-12) Monday evening at American Family Field.
