AEROSMITH: Another Year, Another Answer

The question of whether Aerosmith will ever record again continues to provide different answers. Last year, Joe Perry was more focused on archival reissues. "Steven [Tyler] and I have been talking about it and listening to the catalog and listening to the different versions of the different songs and we're kind of getting excited about kind of the way Jimmy Page has been going back and looking at the Led Zeppelin catalog and releasing some of the stuff that's never been released before. So we've been kind of focusing on that and at the same time every once in a while we look at each other and go, 'Hey, what do you think about getting in the studio again?' With so much stuff going on I won't say it'll never happen, but we'll see." Well, it's still a matter of never say never. Now he tells Rock Candy magazine, "There's definitely a possibility. I know that Steven has got some stuff in his back pocket, so we'll see. I'm currently writing stuff for a new Hollywood Vampires album, but after that… What we are definitely doing is remixing some of the early Aerosmith stuff and finding some interesting outtakes, so it'll be fun to look at that stuff." But also last year, Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford didn't see them ever recording again, telling Guitar World, "Maybe six or seven years ago...I said, ‘Let’s pick a city or studio, and we’ll book it for one day... Everybody can fly in Friday and Saturday morning; we have an open-ended session with one goal: to make a song and have one demo.’ I don’t even care if Steven just sings... “I said that, and they just said, ‘Oh, we can’t do that.’ I was in shock; it’s not rocket science for us. It’s not impossible, and we’ve done it before. I don’t care if the song was a piece of [crap]; it was to be an exercise in creativity. But nobody wanted to do it. So I threw my hands up in the air, and that’s where my hands remain to this day. “I cannot put my finger on it. I guess I’ll call it out-and-out laziness.” So, if things don't change, 2012's Music From Another Dimension will remain their final studio album of new material, which doesn't sit too well with Whitford. He says it was "just a piss-poor record. It’s like…where is that certain something? I guess it got left behind somewhere." But before Aerosmith can even get in the studio, they need to see if they can get through a tour. They'll resume their Peace Out tour on September 20th in Pittsburgh, a year after starting and stopping it after three shows when Steven Tyler blew out his larynx.

DAVID GILMOUR: Luck and Strange Sounding

David Gilmour has taken a unique approach to his new album, Luck and Strange, when it comes to the choir and orchestra. In a new video posted on his socials showing them in the recording studio, he says, "Although they’re deliberately out of tune, they somehow seem to fit.” Gilmour has also posted a video in which he demonstrates one of the unique sounds he makes on the guitar, which he calls a "swell" because "it's a swelling sort of sound. A sound I've used many times on all sorts of tracks going back years and years and years. “It's sort of slightly orchestral. It's created with delays but you don't hear the impact note in theory.” He's also posted a video that gives a sneak peak of the album's opening instrumental track, "Black Cat," and another highlighting one of his favorite guitars, a 1945 Martin D-18 acoustic. Luck and Strange will be released on September 6th.

VAN HAGAR: Maybe This Is Why

There might be a simple reason why Alex Van Halen has never responded to Sammy Hagar's invitation to join him on The Best of All Worlds tour. It turns out that he may harbor a grudge against Hagar's drummer, Jason Bonham because of something his father, the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, did to the Van Halen drummer. Jason, in a recent St Louis interview, says Alex blew him off when he was introduced to him by Y&T drummer Leonard Haze in 1984 at the Monsters of Rock festival in Donington, England. Fast forward to 2014 when Jason joined Sammy and Michael Anthony in The Circle and he asked Anthony why Alex acted that way. "We heard your dad was in the Rainbow [Bar and Grill in West Hollywood, California], and we were playing Gazzarri's next door. We kind of ran around the Rainbow and tried to say hi to him, and Alex kind of like jumped over [the barrier] and went to put his hand out and your dad took a swing at him. 'Oh, maybe that's why he's a little pissed.'" When Hagar put together the band for The Best of All Worlds tour, which leans heavily on Van Halen's catalog, Bonham was hesitant to join, feeling it should be Alex. The Best of All Worlds tour moves to Detroit on Friday and Chicago on Saturday.

Vivian Campbell Confirms New Def Leppard Studio Album

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell confirmed the band is releasing a new studio album in the near future. Campbell said “Well, there is [a plan to release an album], actually. I mean, 'Just Like 73' was actually left over from [DEF LEPPARD's latest album, 2022's] 'Diamond Star Halos'. The song just wasn't quite finished a few years ago.” He added, “Plus, we had an abundance of songs for 'Diamond Star'. And yes, we are constantly writing music, and yes, there will be another record.”

New Grateful Dead Box Includes Never-Released Live Shows

One of the tracks, a performance of "U.S. Blues" from a concert at Duke University, was released digitally on Wednesday.

Elton John Celebrates 34 Years of Sobriety w/ Instagram Post

Yesterday, rock music icon Elton John celebrated 34 years of sobriety on Instagram by posting a picture of a coin from Unity Recovery, with a caption that read, “34 years clean and sober. My life has never been better.” During the '70s and '80s, John struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol, but he turned his life around in 1990 and has remained sober since. The 77-year-old is now married to David Furnish, and together they have two children.

PRETENDERS: Really?

Chrissie Hynde has posted an update on Facebook, in which she talks about the size of the venues The Pretenders play. She says, "Over these past years, people often ask why we aren’t playing in bigger venues i.e. arenas? "The simple answer is: Clubs and theatres are better venues for the audience and for the band. "Personally, I have never stayed for a three-hour show, and I like to see the band on stage rather than on screens if I’m in the audience. "And if I’m on stage, I like to see every audience member right up to the back of the balcony. "So yes, we could be playing bigger places, making more money, and in some people’s eyes, garnering more prestige ... but we really don’t give a [crap] about that stuff. "We have loved supporting Stevie Nicks, Phil Collins, Guns N’ Roses, and now the Foo Fighters in huge venues, but for our own shows we like to keep it reined in..." The Pretenders have a few headlining shows coming up including Kansas City, Missouri tonight (Thursday) before teaming up with the Foo Fighters again on Saturday in Denver.

Only Half Of Recent High School Grads Are Going To 4-Year Colleges

Now that the class of 2024 has graduated from high school, what are they planning to do with their lives? A new survey suggests many of the teens are taking a less traditional path for the future.

According to the poll of 1,000 recent public high school grads and 1,000 of their parents:

·Less than a quarter of graduates feel “very prepared” for life after graduation.

·Their parents feel the same, as only 43% believe their teen is ready for the “real world” after finishing high school.

·While half of high school grads are continuing their education at a four-year college or university, about a quarter (24%) plan to enter the work force, 21% are going to a two-year college or university, like community college, 9% are planning to go to trade school, 7% are taking a gap year and 4% are joining the military.

·Looking back on high school, 36% of grads wish their school focused more on post-high school life, beyond going to college. Another 37% would like to have had more exposure to job skills.

·Grads would also like to have learned about real-world skills (49%), mental health support (41%) and life skills like conflict resolution or stress relievers (41%).

·Four in 10 recent grads wish their high school education included courses on financial literacy.

·They also think schools should spend less time focusing on standardized testing (30%) and overall scores (28%).

·More than a third (36%) of grads want high schools to teach students “how to think” instead of “what to think,” and 35% wish there was more flexibility in their schedules/times of classes.

·The average high school graduate says they spent less than half (43%) of their school day learning about things they were passionate about.

·Given the choice, they’d want to spend about 65% of the day focusing on their interests and passions.

Gen Z Is Bucking Corporate Jargon

Gen Z is leaving its mark on the workplace, for better or worse. They’re prioritizing a work-life balance and rejecting the corporate ladder, as well as ditching office jargon. While younger workers refuse to use old school terms like “circle back” or get their “ducks in a row,” they’ve coined their own terms, like “lazy-girl jobs” and “office siren.”

“Gen Z isn’t playing the corporate language game,” says recruiter Emily Durham. “They’re not using that same jargon that I think we were so forced into.” And research backs her up.

·According to a 2023 LinkedIn and Duolingo survey of 1,016 professional adults of all ages, 48% of Gen Z and millennial respondents say they felt left out at work because of phrases like “blue-sky thinking” and “low-hanging fruit” being used often.

·Nearly 60% of Gen Z and millennials say this workplace jargon felt like a different language to them and two-thirds thought their coworkers “overdid it” with these terms.

Durham points out that Gen Z takes a “more casual approach to work,” and the language they use in the workplace is just one example of that. "They hear this language, and they're aware that this was made up by somebody's grandfather 70 years ago, and it stuck," she explains. "They don't really feel like they need to pretend that they like it." She notes that if Zoomers come across something they don’t like, “they actively just unsubscribe from it,” office jargon included.

83% Of People Have Been Involved In A Cheating Relationship

We hear a lot about Gen Z’s problems in the workplace, but it may be their personal lives we should be worried about. According to new research, a majority of the younger generation has been involved in cheating in their love lives.

DatingAdvice.com’s new survey of 1,000 people in relationships finds that 83% say they’ve been involved in a cheating relationship. That number is pretty high, but it soars to 93% among Gen Zers, while it’s 80% for millennials.

"Gen Z is more open about discussing and exploring diverse relationship structures, much more so than older generations," explains generation expert Bryan Driscoll. "While this openness can be positive, it also blurs the lines of traditional monogamous commitments, potentially leading to misunderstandings and instances of what might be perceived as cheating."

The survey also reveals:

·Most Gen Zers who are afraid they’re being cheated on don’t speak up, only 22% say they confront their partners with cheating suspicions, compared to 34% of millennials.

·Millennials are also more willing to confess their own infidelity to a partner, as 26% say they would, compared to 18% of Gen Z.

·So how are most cheaters caught, if they don’t admit to it? Incriminating texts revealed the truth 23% of the time, 20% of cheaters say they were caught because of “carelessness,” and unusual credit card statements exposed 16% of cheating guys and 10% of cheating women.

·Dating apps also led to Gen Z cheaters getting caught 19% of the time.

The Most Visited Websites In The World

Most of us spend more time than we’d care to admit online, between the things we have to do and all the time we spend scrolling. Research shows more than 5.4-billion people use the Internet regularly, which is 61.7% of the people on the planet. So, what’s everyone doing online? New research gives us a clear picture.

Visual Capitalist has determined the most visited websites in the world, as of June 2024. And it turns out, the web is basically getting smaller, because more than a third of the entire world’s Internet traffic comes from just 15 websites.

·You probably won’t be surprised to learn that Google is the website used most often worldwide.

·It accounts for 18.32% of global web traffic, with 8.5-billion searches every day.

·Google’s 82-billion views a month is nearly three times as many as the second most visited website, YouTube, which gets 31-billion monthly views and accounts for 6.69% of web traffic.

·That means Alphabet, the parent company of Google and YouTube, gets a quarter of all Internet traffic.

The Most Visited Websites Worldwide in 2024

1.Google - 82-billion views a month (18.32% of web traffic)

2.YouTube - 31-billion views a month (6.69%)

3.Facebook - 15-billion views a month (3.41%)

4.Instagram - 7-billion views a month (1.55%)

5.X (formerly Twitter) - 6-billion views a month (0.87%)

6.Baidu (Chinese search engine) - 4-billion views a month (0.98%)

7.Wikipedia - 4-billion views a month (0.93%)

8.Yahoo - 3-billion views a month (0.75%)

9.Yandex (Russian search engine) - 3-billion views a month (0.70%)

10.Whatsapp - 3-billion views a month (0.67%)

Study: Eating Processed Red Meat Raises Risk Of Dementia

Bacon lovers, you’re not going to want to hear this. You probably know that indulging in your beloved breakfast meat can lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol and raise the risk of heart disease, but now new research reveals another way it’s bad for your health. According to a preliminary new study, a diet high in processed red meat is linked to a higher risk of dementia.

The findings, which were presented this week at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference, show:

·Dementia risk increased by 14% when people ate about one-ounce of processed red meat a day, or less than two three-ounce servings a week, compared to those who ate just three servings a month.

·Processed red meats include bacon, sausage, hot dogs and deli meats, and often have higher levels of sodium, nitrates and saturated fat.

·Eating even more processed red meat raises the risk more. Each extra daily serving adds an extra 1.61-years of cognitive decline in cognition and an extra 1.69-years of cognitive aging in verbal memory.

·But there is some good news in the study. When people swapped that daily serving of processed red meat with a serving of nuts and legumes, the risk for dementia dropped by 20%.

“There is much we can do to reduce the risks of dementia, starting with actions that are well known to reduce risks of cardiovascular disease,” explains Dr. Walter Willett, professor of epidemiology and nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston. That’s because the main risk factors for Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline are the same as the ones for cardiovascular disease.

The Slider Sack is now selling at a price of $7.99 which is less than 80 cents a slider and more than 30% off of the regular price. The 10 for $7.99 deal was introduced last month in the St. Louis area to celebrate the company’s 99th anniversary in that market, but it proved to be so popular that the company is expanding to all of its restaurants. There’s no word on how long this promotion will last, so you may want to take of advantage of the deal soon.

Hen Loses Eggs, Becomes 'Mother' to 10 Puppies

A hen named Harriet became a mother figure to 10 Great Pyrenees puppies after losing her eggs. Tracie Hale, from “Windridge Farm” in Oklahoma, shared the story on TikTok. Harriet laid her eggs in a doghouse but lost them when Hale’s dog, Lucy, ate them for extra calcium during her pregnancy. Despite the loss, Harriet remained in the nesting area and started mothering Lucy’s puppies, even sitting on them and showing them how to eat. "Harriet realizes that she will not be able to take these puppies from Lucy, so she's going to choose a co-parenting approach," Hale narrated on TikTok.

Doctors Remove 26-Inch Eel from Man's Anus After It Bites His Intestine

A 31-year-old man in Vietnam suffered severe pain after stuffing a live eel up his anus, which then tried to bite its way out of his large intestine. Horrified medics discovered the 26-inch eel via X-ray this past weekend and initially failed to remove it because the patient also had a lemon lodged in his rectum. Surgeons had to cut through his abdomen to extract the eel, and then remove the lemon. Without treatment, he would have died, but he'll now have to live with a colostomy bag. This was the first time the hospital had to remove a live animal from inside someone.

Spider Bite Leaves Woman with Sepsis and Huge Stomach Wound

Karen Ashmore, 56, was bitten by a spider, leading to a severe infection that caused a large hole in her stomach and sepsis. Initially dismissing the bite as heat rash, she later noticed the wound becoming bigger, sore, and itchy. Her condition worsened, so she rushed to the hospital where doctors found an abscess caused by the spider venom, and she needed emergency surgery. The operation left her with an open wound, about the size of a quarter.

“I never thought a spider could cause this sort of damage. Sepsis is deadly. I could’ve easily lost my life,” she explained. Karen now urges others to seek medical help immediately if they notice a suspicious spot.

Hong Kong Pizza Hut Trolls Italy With Pineapple After Fencing Controversy

Hong Kong’s gold medal performance in men’s fencing came at the expense of Italy, and the Italians weren’t at all happy with how things went down. Italy has traditionally dominated the sport, with 39 gold medals to show for it, but Hong Kong’s Cheung Ka Long was able to come back after being down 14-12 to win it all over Filippo Macchi, thanks to a video review in sudden death that showed Macchi had lost by a split second in the final touches of the sabres. The Italians thought it was a draw, the refs and Hong Kong saw it differently. This led to some sour grapes and a trolling opportunity for Pizza Hut restaurants in Hong Kong, who told customers that free pineapple could be added to any order…for a limited time…while supplies last. You can imagine how that went over amongst the Italians.

Texas News Anchor Arrested In Bar Fight

Here’s a story a local television newsroom in Texas might not have been all that thrilled to report on. In College Station, Texas, KBTX news anchor Heather Kovar was arrested by police at Texas A&M University…after what was reported to be a bar fight. In a probable cause statement, police say Kovar was “involved in an argument…with a person she knew.” At a certain point, that argument allegedly became “physical,” and the victim was injured. Kovar has been slapped with a charge of “assault family violence causing bodily injury,” which is a Class A misdemeanor. Management for KBTX says they’re investigating the incident.

Pro Tip: Your Bank Will Never Ask You To Get Naked On FaceTime

An unidentified woman from Mayfield Heights, Ohio fell victim to an unusual scam that cost her six grand…and her dignity. Reportedly, the scam started with a call from someone telling her there’d been fraudulent activity related to her bank account. She was then told that the money would be stolen if she didn’t move it to another account, which was a Chase Bank debit card that she added to her Apple Wallet. The money was transferred and then deposited into an “unknown checking account,” thereby making it officially “laundered.” Then, when the woman got home, she received a FaceTime call from the same scammer, who was posing as a bank employee and told her that a “full body scan” was needed to verify her identity due to a “failed transaction.” For that, she “undressed and spun in circles”…it wasn’t until she heard the scammer laughing that she finally realized it was all a hoax. Helpful Tip – a legitimate financial institution won’t ask you to get naked and spin on FaceTime.

Retiree Matches Five Lottery Numbers On 25 Different Tickets

A retiree in Maryland hit it big playing the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game. The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, played the same five numbers on 25 different tickets…and those numbers came in. Typically, the top prize for the game is $50K, but the prize pool is capped at $600K in the event there are multiple winners. In this instance, each ticket paid off at $23,076 each, for a grand total of $576K. It could be argued that she’d have been better off just buying a total of 12 tickets to get the full $600K, but when you’re talking free money, who’s going to be that nitpicky?

Woman Gets Two Months In Jail For Overfeeding Dog

Feeding your dog is a good thing. Overfeeding it…not so much…especially if that food overdose ends up killing the animal. A New Zealand woman has been sentenced to two months in jail after being found guilty of “overfeeding her dog…to the point where he could hardly walk ten meters without needing a break.” When Nuggi was rescued, he was found to be obscenely overweight at 114 pounds and was so big that a vet couldn’t hear his heartbeat through all the fat. Army’s Recruiting Efforts With The Rock And UFL Reportedly Tanked

The United States Army is facing a serious recruiting problem. To help fix that, the Army invested $11 million in a marketing deal with the United Football League and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Part of the deal reportedly included a requirement that Johnson posts “a specific number of service-related posts on his social media” as he served as a “pseudo brand ambassador” for the service. The Army now is alleging that The Rock didn’t do that, and that the campaign not only might not have resulted in one new recruit but might have also had a negative impact. Now, the Army is reportedly trying to recoup some of that $11 million spent on the campaign “on finding new enlistments.”
