AEROSMITH: Wing Mates

REO Speedwagon singer Kevin Cronin has posted a heartfelt note following Aerosmith's announcement Friday that they're retiring from touring. He writes, "Back in the early 1970s, REO Speedwagon was regularly booked to open for bigger bands who needed help selling tickets in the Midwest. We had no hits, but we were a pretty powerful band with plenty of loyal fans. It was not unusual for headliners to give us no monitors, maybe one spotlight, the dankest dressing rooms…they essentially sabotaged our performance. They wanted to draw our fans, but they just didn’t like the competition.

"Then in 1976, we were chosen to open for Aerosmith and everything changed. On the first night of the tour, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry came to our dressing room, (which was stocked with beer and assorted munchies), introduced themselves and welcomed us to their tour. Perry and [REO guitarist Gary] Richrath compared guitars. Steven invited us to join them after every show for a great meal, [and] we were given all access to their party suite; they treated us with respect. Rather than mess with us, Steven and Joe wanted the best for us, as Aerosmith was not intimidated at all. They used the energy of the REO Speedwagon performance to lift them, [and] they rocked extra hard as a result, and the audience was the ultimate winner...

"I learned a lot from Steven Tyler. Any band who has opened for REO and been treated with love and respect has Steven to thank. As big a star as he is, whenever our paths have crossed there is always a good vibe and an acknowledgement of our long time connection. It seems impossible that the great Steven Tyler’s retirement will be permanent. He is such a force of nature. But if this is the time for him to hang up his scarves, then so be it and more power to him. He has given so much of himself, and left so much of himself on stages in venues all around the world. He has earned the right to take his final bow whenever he sees fit..."

Here's an interesting side note -- both REO and Aerosmith's logos feature wings.

David Gilmour Claims New Solo Album Is His Best Since ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’

While most musicians say their most recent album is their best yet, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has upped the ante on the claim: He says his upcoming solo album, Luck and Strange, represents his best work since he recorded the classic Pink Floyd album The Dark Side of the Moon. “It’s over 50 years now since The Dark Side of the Moon,” Gilmour says. “My feeling is that this album is the best album I’ve made in all those years since 1973 when The Dark Side of the Moon came out.” That means Gilmour believes Luck and Strange is better than such critically praised Pink Floyd albums as 1977’s Animals and 1979’s The Wall. Luck and Strange, Gilmour’s first album in almost a decade, is due September 6th.

SAMMY HAGAR: Back to the Beach

Sammy Hagar's The Best of All Worlds tour is on a break. Following Saturday’s show in the Chicago suburb of Tinley Park, Illinois, he flew home to Southern California and on Sunday he posted a video explaining that he was getting ready to cook some pasta. But he also thanked his fans for their support over the first 13 shows. "I enjoy my time off, damn near as much as my time on stage, which is pure indescribable joy. I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for coming out and rocking with us. Every city has been spectacular. Every city has been different in its own way. Every city has been special in its own way. This tour is filling my heart and soul with pure joy and happiness. God Bless rock music.” The tour resumes Friday in Las Vegas with 15 shows through August 31st in St. Louis followed by three in Japan in September.

Steven Van Zandt Doesn’t Rule Out More Shows with Bruce Springsteen

It sounds like everyone on E Street has no interest in slowing down. When asked by the ‘Telegraph’ if more Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tour dates are in the works, Steven Van Zandt said, “You never know.” He continued, “I mean, we treat every show like it could be the last show, and we’ve been doing that for 50 years. But the audience is still there, and we can see them getting younger every year.” Van Zandt added, “I don’t see the end anywhere in sight, to be honest, especially in Europe, where we’re bigger than we’ve ever been. I think we can play every summer forevermore, man.”

Metallica Cover "Sweet Caroline" In Boston

Metallica busted out an unexpected cover song during Sunday night's show at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA. Bassist Robert Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett decided to play the least heavy-metal song imaginable: Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline". Trujillo joked "This song is really scary, super-heavy, and if you start moshing, try not to injure yourselves." "Sweet Caroline" has a special meaning in Massachusetts - the Boston Red Sox play it at every home game. Metallica's M72 tour moves on to Chicago's Soldier Field later this week.

Wolfgang Van Halen Thinks Father "Ruined The Musical Landscape"

Wolfgang Van Halen thinks his dad, Eddie Van Halen, may have messed up the music scene back in the ‘80s. Eddie was seen by many as one of the best guitar players around when Van Halen found mainstream success…and that inspired a lot of imitators. “In a way, Dad kind of ruined the musical landscape [of ‘80s rock],” Wolfgang shared on the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast. “Because instead of everybody wanting to find out who they are, they just wanted to be [Eddie].”

JOHN LENNON: With a Little Help For His Friend

The digital deluxe reissue of John Lennon's 1973 album, Mind Games – The Ultimate Collection, contains two bonus tracks, while the physical box set contains hidden tracks.

One of the bonus tracks is his demo of “I’m the Greatest,” which Ringo Starr recorded for his 1973 album, Ringo. “I’m The Greatest (Ultimate Mix)” with Lennon's guide vocal from the original recording session is now streaming for the first time. You can find it on YouTube. The other digital bonus track is “Rock ‘N’ Roll People,” and it's also hidden on the box set.

New hidden tracks will be released digitally every two weeks up until October 9th, which would have been Lennon’s 84th birthday. Also, basic arrangements of songs will be released digitally as part of Mind Games (The Elemental Mixes). The first one is the unreleased “You are Here (Out-take, Take 4).”

Ringo's version of "I'm the Greatest" is the lead track on Ringo and features Lennon on piano and backing vocals, George Harrison on guitar, Billy Preston on organ and electric piano, and Klaus Voorman on bass. It was the only time the three Beatles recorded together after their break-up in 1970 and Lennon's death in 1980. Lennon wrote the autobiographical song in December 1970, but then tailored the lyrics for Ringo.

THE WHO: More Peterbabble

Pete Townshend has once again addressed the possibility of The Who touring again.

He tells The Daily Beast, “I don’t know what’s gonna happen with The Who. I’m hoping

Roger [Daltrey] and I can find some common ground and find some way to work again, possibly without an orchestra, because I think we’ve done that. But also, there’s this sense that we’re in the last tour period of our career...“Are we just hoping to do what Bob Dylan does and just keep going? I’m encouraged by seeing what Roger’s doing in his solo [acoustic] tour. It seems to me that if we put a small band together and just decided to throw [crap] at the wall, it might be great.”

But, they've yet to discuss anything as he adds, "It might be difficult to land on something that we both share an interest in. But it’s there for the taking, I think...“I’m not gonna try to bully Roger to do anything. I don’t want to have the job that I used to have around the time of Quadrophenia, which is bullying everybody in The Who to do exactly what I want to do.

“Anyway, I’m hopeful. I’m certainly not saying that we won’t do anything, but Roger and I do have a bit of a river to cross. And once we cross that river, we’ll see what happens.”

The Who last performed in March at the Teenage Cancer Trust benefit in London, and their last tour was last year in the UK.

Liam Gallagher's Son Talks Oasis Reunion

Liam Gallagher’s son Gene has a “feeling” his father wants an Oasis reunion. The 23-year-old musician spoke out amid growing rumors that the band is set to get together again for the 30th anniversary of their debut album ‘Definitely, Maybe,’ which is set to be marked with a re-release at the end of August. He explained, “I get the feeling my dad wants it, too. Let’s hope it happens. It’s easier to speak about after a couple of pints. I mean, will they? I don’t know. I would love it but it’s so beyond my control.” Noel said in 2022 a “set of extraordinary circumstances” would be required for Oasis to reform and has said if Liam called him it could be on the table.

Dolce And Gabbana Launches Perfume For Dogs

“I am delicate, authentic, charismatic, because I’m not just a dog, I’m Fefe.” That's the copy in an ad for Dolce & Gabbana’s new perfume line for dogs, which is called Fefe. It’s an attempt to move into the enormous pet industry for the brand, and while it includes “warm notes of musk, sandalwood, and ylang ylang,” at least one animal welfare expert is warning against the idea, saying that “some smells can be really unpleasant for dogs.” The perfume bottle has a 24-carat gold-plated paw on the bottle, and customers are offered an exclusive Dolce & Gabbana dog collar with a tag as well. Fefe, named after the pet of Domenico Dolce, sells for just under $110 a bottle, and is already available online if you can’t wait to see what the non-poor dogs smell like.

Nanny Reveals The Crazy Demands Of Ultra-Rich Parents

We all learn trade secrets on the job, but for those of us who work in an office, they’re usually as boring as the work we do. That’s not the case when you work for a family inside their home and get to see how things work, even the things they don’t really want anyone to know. Stephanie Kiser got this kind of insider info while working for incredibly wealthy families in New York City, and now she’s spilling the details in a new book, “Wanted: Toddler’s Personal Assistant.”

While taking care of kids for some of the city’s billionaires and the ultra-rich in their multi-million dollar homes may have been an enjoyable job, it also came with some over-the-top demands from parents. The outrageous things they wanted their nanny to do for their pampered kids include:

·A mom who asked Kiser to take drugs that would make her lactate so she could breastfeed the baby. “The mom didn’t want to pump at work, but also only wanted her child to drink breast milk,” she writes. “So she was seeking a nanny comfortable with induced lactation” after reading about things that could cause a non-pregnant woman to produce milk.

·Another potential client wanted her to work five days on, with two days off, and live in during the five days on. She’d have to wake the son at 6:30 a.m., watch him brush his teeth, put on deodorant, make sure he eats his entire breakfast made by their chef, supervise his activities and make sure he showers at night, before tucking him into bed. And the kid was 17!

·In another “nanny audition” for a “germaphobe” mom, Kiser was told she had to protect their toddlers from contact with the outside world. This meant washing their clothes immediately after they wore them, no playdates were allowed and the kids had private gymnastics lessons to avoid being exposed to other kids’ germs. But when the mom asked the nanny to sneeze outside the apartment, she knew it wasn’t the job for her.

·The mother of a five-year-old “spiteful child who pooped his pants every day on purpose” insisted the nanny hand-wash his underwear and scrape the poop off with her bare fingernail. She resigned soon after that.

·Of course, some of the job requirements don’t seem so bad. One parent asked, “Are you comfortable doing errands in a Porsche? They’re the only kind of cars we have.”

The Buzz Of Finding A Good Shopping Bargain Lasts Over 3 Hours

Does the thrill of scoring a good bargain give you a good buzz? A lot of shoppers experience that feeling afterwards and it’s not a fleeting feeling for many of them. New research reveals that “post-purchase glow” lasts for an average of 216 minutes, or just over three and a half hours.

A survey of 2-thousand U.S. adults and their shopping habits finds that 10% stay on cloud nine for the rest of the day after getting a good deal, and 22% are high on that good bargain buzz for at least four hours.

·Shoppers aren’t shy about their savings, they’d brag about getting a bargain to friends (59%), their partner (40%) and to extended family (27%).

·More than half (54%) consider themselves the best bargain hunter they know and 60% claim they can find a deal on anything.

·So what do they count as a good deal? Respondents need to save 36% on average, to make it worth their time, but one in five say they need an item to be at least half off.

·But shoppers aren’t always patient, including a third of those polled who’d only wait up to a week for something to go on sale before buying it at full price.

·While 48% have a plan for shopping and mostly stick to it, 30% admit they veer from their plan in the store and 20% just wing it altogether.

·Over half (56%) of Americans say they never pass on a good deal, even if it’s something they don’t need.

·Shoppers say the things that are most overpriced this year are gas (47%), fast food (46%), meat/fish (42%), cars (35%) and cell phones (35%).

·But they say there are some things that are worth the splurge, including cell phones (21%), appliances (20%), computers/laptops (20%), personal care items (19%) and TVs (18%).

Bride’s Ad On Craigslist Offers $1K To Be Mother-In-Law’s Wedding Date

Some people marry into families and get blessed with extra family members who are loving, while others get stuck with an in-law who seems dedicated to making their life miserable. Sometimes they don’t find out until it’s too late, but one bride-to-be is aware of her husband’s mother’s potential destructive ways and she’s going to extremes to keep her under control.

Her way of handling it? Hiring a date to watch her future mother-in-law at the wedding. The unnamed bride posted an ad on Craigslist looking for a date to distract her husband’s mom during the wedding weekend.

The ad was recently posted on Reddit’s “Best of Craigslist” thread for the August nuptials in Hudson Valley, New York.

·“She needs constant attention and supervision,” the bride-to-be writes. “She will probably wear white and try to escalate small dramas—your job is simply to distract and de-escalate.”

·The “simple” job will take place over two days and the bride is even offering to give the date background info and conversation topics.

·The right man for the job will be between 40 and 60 years old, be able to hold a conversation, dance well, de-escalate conflicts, pretend to be an interested guest and wear a suit.

·The bride-to-be notes that “experience with narcissists is a plus.”

·While this may sound like a lot to ask of a blind date, the guy will get paid $1,000, plus free accommodations, travel and food during their stay.

·Interested candidates will need to send in a photo and a blurb about their qualifications, and the bride will run a background check for safety.

The Question Simone Biles Wants People To Stop Asking Olympians

The day after winning the gold medal for the individual vault at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Simone Biles took to social media to express her frustration with a common question asked of Olympians: what their next steps are after winning a medal. This statement comes on the heels of her winning three gold medals and a silver medal at the Paris Games, and Biles believes that athletes should be allowed to enjoy their achievements without immediately having to commit to their future plans. Despite this stance, she did discuss her future in gymnastics, hinting at the possibility of returning to compete at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Army Officer Miss Michigan Wins Miss USA

On Sunday, Alma Cooper from Michigan was crowned Miss USA, becoming the third person to hold the title this year following a tumultuous period of controversy and resignations within the pageant. Cooper, a U.S. Army officer with a Master’s degree in data science from Stanford, was crowned the winner among the 50 contestants. Kentucky's Connor Perry and Oklahoma's

Danika Christopherson were the first and second runners-up. This year’s pageant saw significant changes, including the lifting of an age restriction and the inclusion of the first transgender and openly lesbian state titleholders.

Argentina Reportedly Wants To Use AI To “Predict Future Crimes”

The president of Argentina has apparently never seen movies like “Minority Report.” Javier Milei has created a new branch of law enforcement called the “Artificial Intelligence Applied to Security Unit.” With this new united, Milei plans to “harness machine-learning algorithms to analyze historical crime data to predict future crimes.” With that AI data, they will theoretically be able to “detect potential threats, identify movements of criminal groups, or anticipate disturbances.” With these technological advances, of course, come concerns regarding privacy, surveillance, and potential ulterior motives of those in charge of the technology…including Milei.

The Royal Family is Not Allowed to Play Monopoly

The British Royal Family is forbidden from playing Monopoly, the most popular board game in the world. A number of years ago, Prince Andrew mentioned how older royals are not allowed to play the game because "it gets too vicious" and this comment has been resurfacing. He previously mentioned this during an official engagement when he had to decline a well-wisher's gift of the board game. Monopoly holds the Guinness World Record for being the most-played game, with 500 million players worldwide. It was designed by Charles Darrow and released in 1935, with over 300 versions now available, including Pokemon, Game of Thrones, and Animal Crossing.

Current Reddit users found the ban amusing and have been commenting non-stop. One user wrote, "I bet they aren't even allowed to say the word Uno!" Another imagined, "Harry and William secretly playing a smuggled Monopoly set in a dark corner of Buckingham Palace."

Woman Makes Breast Milk Popsicles for Her Family to Enjoy

A mom named Leah from Ohio, came up with an interesting way to deal with her oversupply of breast milk. Since giving birth to her second son, she's been producing way more milk than he can drink, about 8 cups per day.  Leah explained that she likely created this oversupply by pumping every three hours right after her son was born, which made her body think it needed to produce more.

Not wanting it to go to waste, she experimented with different uses, like smoothies, butter, and soap, but found the fruit-flavored popsicles to be the best-tasting treat. Now, her kids and even her husband enjoy these popsicles, making sure none of that "liquid gold" goes to waste. Leah's husband thinks the milk is sweet, and she admitted she was also curious enough to taste it. Leah explained, "I'll only stop making them when my kids stop eating them!" Of course, not everyone online gets it, and some people have left immature comments. Leah just brushes them off, boosting, "Breast milk is called liquid gold for a reason. It has so many benefits."

Man Who Lives as a Dog in a $16,000 Costume, Has New Husky Costumed Buddy

There's a man who has chosen to live as a dog in a $16,000 collie costume. Known as Toco on YouTube, he first made headlines when he expressed his wish to live life as a dog. In his videos, Toco engages in dog-like behavior, strolling down streets and being petted, even assuring a child that he 'doesn't bite.' After a period of silence on his social media accounts, Toco has re-emerged with a furry companion, a new friend dressed as a husky.

It seems he's found his match. Posted to his channel "I Want To Be An Animal" and its 70,000-strong followers, the video is titled "POKEDANCE" and the pair play with a dog toy and perform very human dance moves. Toco the collie has previously been seen being pushed around in a buggy by his "owner," who ensures his costume is well-maintained. One viewer commented on the latest video featuring Toco's companion, "THERE ARE TWO NOW?!" Another confused viewer remarked, "This is getting out of hand.” An enthusiast wrote, "Aww this is so cute I'm glad you have a husky friend that shares interest."

Researchers Develop ‘Invisible’ Face Mask

If you want to protect yourself from airborne viruses but don’t like being muzzled with a protective mask, there’s good news: Researchers at the University of Michigan have developed an “invisible” face mask that protects its wearer with a curtain of air. The downside is the invisible mask requires its user to wear a very visible hat and backpack. The hat, which resembles a construction worker’s hard hat, is equipped with nozzles that shoot a curtain of air down and around the wearer’s face, blocking 99.8 percent of all aerosols, including viruses, says Professor Herek Clack. The air that comes out of the device is pre-treated with an anti-virus substance, making the invisible mask nearly 100 percent effective, Clack says.

The “Worker Wearable Protection Device” also requires the use of a 10-pound backpack that houses the unit’s battery, electronics, air handling system and nonthermal plasma module, which kills airborne viruses with ionized gas, Clack says. The device is expected to be available sometime in 2025.
